Sun Spirit Ltd Fined For Failing To Insure Against Workplace Accident Compensation Claims

An investigation led by the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) found Sun Spirit Ltd, of Sunderland’s Quay Court, did not hold Employer’s Liability Compulsory Insurance between February 9th and December 13th 2012. This meant that if any of the company’s employees claimed workplace accident compensation, their employer would not be insured against their industrial disease claims or personal injury claims.

The company, which installs solar panel, was fined £750 with an additional £850 in costs in the hearing at Sunderland Magistrate’s Court on August 16th, after admitting to a breach of the Employers’ Liability (Compulsory Insurance) Act.

Andrea Robbins, HSE Inspector, pointed out that the insurance the firm failed to take out offers “important protection for employers and employees” as well as being a legal requirement.

Failure to take out this insurance could mean sine sick and injured employees are unable to receive any accident at work compensation, she added.
