Serious personal injuries 'people's top concern'
18th December 2013
People are more worried about the possibility of themselves or their family suffering serious and life-changing personal injuries than anything else, research from pension and protection firm Friends Life has revealed.
A poll revealed that serious or life changing accidents and injuries are one of the top concerns of 45% of respondents, followed by redundancy at 39% and burglary at 25%. Furthermore, 76% of people said immediate family are among the most important things in their lives, with 42% saying their health and 26% saying their job or career.
Nonetheless, many people are failing to insure themselves against personal injuries, with Friends Life showing that people are more likely to insure their smartphones and their pets than themselves. While 21% have pet insurance and 18% have mobile phone insurance, only 13% have health insurance, 12% have critical illness cover, and 9% have income protection. Nonetheless, 34% of people have life cover.
Friends Life said that people should examine their personal insurance options to ensure that they and their family have peace of mind and financial security should the worst happen.
