London Hospital Introduces Telemedicine Technology

Critically-ill patients in one London hospital will be monitored by video link as part of an initiative that aims to improve standards of care overnight and on weekends.

The London Evening Standard reports that Guy’s and St Thomas’ will conduct the first UK trial into telemedicine, which will see high-definition cameras allowing consultants and senior doctors to check up on patients from a dedicated control room.

If any problems with patients become apparent, doctors will be able to contact staff members on-site and advise them of the problem and how to resolve it.

More than 300 US hospitals are already using similar systems, but Guy’s and St Thomas’ is a trailblazer in the UK.

Installing the Philips ‘eICU’ technology will take around nine months, and the initiative was financed with a £2.85 million grant from the Guy’s and St Thomas’ Charity.

Claiming medical negligence compensation

Many medical negligence compensation claims arise after patients receive a sub-standard level of care in hospitals when admitted overnight or on weekends. If you have been the victim of clinical negligence in any healthcare setting, you can make a claim for compensation and be recompensed for any financial losses, as well as any pain or suffering you experienced.

Clinical negligence compensation recognises how serious medical malpractice can be and helps the victims of malpractice recover and get back on track after sustaining personal injuries.
