Tidworth Mayor Calls For Road Safety Improvements
4th December 2013
Mayor of Tidworth Chris Franklin has called for safety improvements to be made at a motor vehicle accident hotspot in the town.
This is Hampshire reports that Kieron Blight, a Sapper of 26 Engineer Regiment, was a passenger in a car that crashed into a tree on Station Road on November 11th. He died at the scene, and the driver was taken to hospital with head injuries.
In October 2012, another serious road traffic accident happened, involving two cars and leaving one man in critical condition.
The speed limit in the area has been cut to 50mph in response to these road safety problems, but Cllr Franklin said he wants to consider ways to reduce motor vehicle accidents on Station Road in the future.
This might involve informing drivers they are in an accident hotspot, looking at the speed of vehicles or making drivers more aware of dangers, he suggested.
He is also looking into whether the area can be considered to be experiencing a cluster of road traffic accidents, which will allow the local authority to invest in safety improvements.
