Norman Baker: Coalition Committed To Cycling

Moves could be made to reduce the number of cycling accident compensation claims, as the government has reaffirmed its commitment to cyclists.

Local Transport Minister Norman Baker said that the coalition is “committed to leading the country” in increasing the number of cyclists and improving their safety.

He made this statement during a visit to Cambridge to launch the government response to the Get Britain Cycling report, and to examine how a recent funding boost for bike provisions will affect provisions in the city.

Many of the recommendations in the report reflect those the coalition is already taking forwards, he stated.

Some of the government’s initiatives include preventing bike accident claims on trunk roads and unveiling a £94 million fund to improve cycling in the UK’s cities and national parks.

Mr Baker said the coalition takes bike-riding “very seriously”.
