Milton Keynes Council sees fall in number of pothole compensation claims
27th January 2014
The number of pothole accident claims and reports of problem potholes received by Milton Keynes Council has fallen.
The Milton Keynes Citizen reports that during December 2013, the council received the lowest number of compensation claims for potholes and slips and trips on the highway since 2006.
It said that these improvements are due to its pavement and road repair initiative, with the local authority investing £50 million into roads and pavements.
Furthermore, the council said in August that it would be speeding up roadway improvements and repairs to ensure the streets were ready for the winter. It put 14 of its repair crews on the streets for six weeks, and increased the strength of an eight-month initiative that has seen more than 77,000 square metres of roadway resurfaced and footpath and road defects see over 3,100 repairs.
From August to November 2012, the council received a total of 500 pothole reports, but by August to November 2013 this fell by 74% to reach just 132.
Councillor Peter Greary said the roads in Milton Keynes have now reached a standard they have not seen “for many years”.
