Dounreay Nuclear Site Dealing With Slips And Trips
4th September 2013
The number of personal injuries sustained by workers at Dounreay Nuclear Power Development Establishment has grown significantly since new management took over the site, it has been reported.
The John O’Groat Journal and Caithness Courier reports that One Point Three Ltd consultants investigated the rate of accidents at work at the site following concerns about its safety performances.
Dounreay’s management suggested that the increase – seen by contrasting injury rates between August 2012 and January 2013 and rates between February 2012 and July 2012 – related to “great changes” at the location.
Unite union lead safety representative John Deighan said while there had been some minor injuries, most of these were slips, trips and hand injuries.
Furthermore, these did not relate to any nuclear matters, he stressed.
Assurance director at the site Alan Scullion said the company is currently focusing on reducing the number of hand injuries.
