Colchester Council's £543,000 Personal Injury Claim Bill Unveiled
19th November 2013
Colchester Council has paid out more than half a million pounds in personal injury claims over the last five years.
A Freedom of Information request by the Daily Gazette found the local authority paid out at least £543,000 in compensation claims over this timeframe. However, the majority of claims pursued against the council were unsuccessful – the publication reported that while a total of 259 claims were made over this period, only 79 were successful.
Some of the different accidents that led to these personal injury compensation claims included injuries occurring on water sliders, falls from trampolines and slips and trips on potholes. Overall, slip, trip and fall claims made up one-third of all claims.
Some of the other claims highlighted by the newspaper included a scald injury caused by hot water, an eye injury caused by broken light bulbs, an electric shock and a pet injury claim involving a dog that had its foot injured by broken glass.
